Child of Mine, Go and Die

MOTHER'S DAY (1)Well, another Mother’s Day is upon on us! Glorious, precious, anti-labor Mother’s Day!

And, normally, I am thinking of the year I have had as a mother, ways I need to grow, the blessings of being a mama to my five, long conversations with God of gratitude and questions. Mostly I am thinking about how I can rest, feed my soul and how my crew can serve me.

But this Mother’s Day is different. Continue reading

Mama, Go Get You a “Thing”

Ok, so they aren’t for everyone. I mean, these are hot plum pink, patent leather 5-inch pumps with an asymmetrical vamp, pointed toe and a peekaboo shank.

But they are my “thing.” My mood-booster. The small item that brings me life and laces my synapses with a little joy as I embark on a full day of pouring out to others.

They help me remember that I am a WOMAN. Continue reading

Praying for Our Sons from Head to Toe: Last Day (after a break!)

praying for our sons from head to toe (1).jpg

Well hello!

I’ve had several folks ask why I dropped off the face of the earth and did not publish the last day (Day 7). Two words:

Life happened.

Sick kids, husband travelled, I helped a friend with a large home project, laundry, training hearts…

I’m sure you know the drill.

And that is the great thing about blogging. I have the blog, the blog does not have me. So thanks for hanging in there! Here’s our final day of prayer for our boys. But we will start with prayer for ourselves…

Lord, keep me from worrying about my son. Remind me he is in Your hands. Let me not weaken my faith by carrying the burden of responsibility for his future: You have promised to carry that burden for me! Strengthen me to pour Your word into him, even if he rolls his eyes or suddenly becomes a yawn-monster (and keep me from wrath if that boy dares to look bored when I open Your word!). I am often so lazy when it comes to training his heart. Remind me that Your word never returns void and that you watch over it and will fulfill all of your promises to my son. Give me wisdom to teach my son in a way that his mind and heart can receive You, and let me not just sit him down and try to force-feed him Scripture. Make me creative with fresh ideas and purpose! Let me see him with eyes of grace, for where his sin abounds, Your grace abounds even more. Let us laugh together. Remind me of the incredibly powerful position You have given me in his life. I am his MOTHER. I carried him for 9 months and have tenderly cared for him every day since. Never let me forget (regardless of his behavior towards me) of the immeasurable influence I have for Christ in the life of my son. Humble me, Lord. So often I approach being his mother with a know-it-all attitude when the truth is I am often unsure if I am doing this right. Am I in Your will? Am I doing enough? Father, slay these doubts with Your promises. With Your grace. With Your love. MAKE MY SON LOVE YOU AND FOLLOW HARD AFTER YOU ALL THE DAYS OF HIS LIFE.

The first person we knew was mama. The first person we kissed was mama. the first person we shared a laugh with was mama. the first person who has always been there for us has been mama. the only person who, without hesitation, would sacrif.jpg

Lord, I pray my son will stand firm in the teachings of Christ today (2 Thes. 2:15). I pray he will be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power by putting on the full armor of God so that he will be able to stand against the devil’s schemes (Eph. 6:10-11). Oh Lord, grant him wisdom to see when the enemy is crouching at the door of his heart! Let him not be passive, like Adam, but let the faith of my son be like that of a roaring lion who devours sin before it even looks his way! Increase his faith, Lord, for by faith we are able to stand firm (2 Cor. 1:24). Your Word says that You give strength to the weary and increase power to the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and the young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint (Is. 40:29-31). This is my prayer for my son today.

Neither lofty degree of intellegnece nor imagination nor both together.jpg

Lord, I pray you will order my son’s steps today, so that his eyes will look straight ahead and fix his gaze directly on You (Prov. 4:25). Oh, Lord, TURN HIS HEART TO YOU TODAY!! I pray he will walk in the way You have commanded (Deut. 5:33). I pray Your love will ever be before him as he walks in Your truth (Ps. 26:3). Lift the heart of my son towards You today and let heaven fill his thoughts. Let him walk away from being like so many other dull-minded young men. Give him a depth of heart, mind and soul. Let him walk in the knowledge of Christ and the depths of Your love.

Blessed is the young man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly (Ps. 1:1) but fears the Lord and walks in His ways (Ps. 128:1). I pray that my son will walk with wise young men so that he may also be wise (Prov. 13:20). I pray he will run the race with endurance and not stumble along the way. I pray he will throw off any sin that entangles him and slows him down (Heb. 12:1). I pray Your word will be a lamp unto his feet today and a light to my son’s path (Ps. 119:105). Make his way clear today, and do not let him stumble into foolishness or wayward thinking.

I pray my son will walk in truth, in light, and in tandem with Christ today (1 Jn. 1:7). “For the Lord God is a sun and a shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless. O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in You (Ps. 84:11-12).

a mother is not to be compared with another person. she is incomparable..jpg

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thanks for taking this journey with me! Be comforted in knowing that these prayers have gone forth and will follow your boys for the rest of their lives. They cannot be killed. They cannot be stopped. Prayer is the most powerful weapon we have to bring about change in the hearts of our sons because prayer can do anything God can do.

And that is a comforting thought, is it not?

Stay Strong for Your Boys.
