Ask and you shall receive!
I have had many ladies ask me to put all the prayers in one place (which I said I would do in the first prayer post and then forgot to do). So… here they are! Remember that I did not write these! If you know who the author is please let me know so I can give credit! I merely added some mamastrong touches to these glorious prayers! I’ve also included the most popular image quotes (I put them at the end so you can print the prayers without using an entire cartridge of ink). Please pin and share these (and share this post!) so other strong mamas can find this post and pray for their boys!
If your son is not yet a Christian, his salvation is your most urgent prayer. Everything else pales in comparison. You’ve probably already discovered that believing in Jesus is not something you can talk him into or force upon him. He must decide for himself what he believes and where he will stand with God. Only Christ can quicken his heart to believe.
Lord, I pray my son will come to know you as his Savior and Lord. I pray he will understand that he has sinned and fallen short of Your standard (Rom. 3:23). Grant him to know that the result of sin is death, but You have given him the free gift of eternal life through Your son, Jesus Christ (Rom. 6:23). Lord, open my son’s heart to know that while he was yet a sinner, You demonstrated Your own love for him and sent Your son to die on the cross to pay the penalty for his sins (Rom. 5:8). I pray he will one day confess with his mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in his heart that You raised Him from the dead (Rom. 10:9). I pray he will call on the name of the Lord and be saved (Rom. 10:13).
Lord, one day my son will be the head of his own household, and I pray he will look to You as the head of his life (Eph. 5:23, 1 Cor. 11:3). Help him to take the leadership role in his home and seek Your wisdom in every decision he makes, knowing that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Psalm 111:10).
Lord, I ask that one day you will bring a godly woman to be my son’s wife. Lord, I pray she would be a worthy wife, a crown for him and not a disgraceful cancer in his bones (Prov. 12:4). I pray that she would be a woman who accepts the authority of my son as the head of the home and submits to him in everything, as to the Lord (Eph. 5:22). I ask that she wins over any stubbornness or wayward thinking in my son with her pure, godly behavior and not nagging words. Lord, grant her a quiet and gentle spirit; one without fear but stayed on the might of You (1 Pet. 3:7).
Above all, Lord, please make my son to be the kind of man that gives honor to his wife, treating her with godly understanding. Place in my son’s mind and heart a love for His wife like that of Christ for the church. Let my son daily give up his life for his wife and let him lead her in the reading and understanding of the Word of God (Eph. 5:25). Grant that my son might have the wisdom to see his wife as one who is in need of protection as the weaker sex, but that he would harbor a deep abiding respect for her personhood and see her as his absolute equal. Let them be a ferocious team for the things of God. Remind him that if he does not treat his wife well you will not hear his prayers.
I ask that my son would leave our family and cleave to his wife and be a separate unit all unto themselves. Protect his mind from feelings of inadequacy or comparison. Help my son to know that the very hairs of his head are numbered and You care for each and every detail of his life (Luke 12:7).
Lord, I pray for my son’s mind. I know that You do not give a spirit of fear, but one of love, power and a sound mind (2 Tim. 1:7, KJV). Make him of sound mind today and take away any confusion. May he have the mind of Christ and think as the Holy Spirit would lead him and not the flesh (1 Cor. 2:16).
I pray he will not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of his mind with Your word day by day (Romans 12:2). Because every spiritual battle of temptation is won or lost at the threshold of the mind, I pray that he will turn from the temptation as soon as the thought enters his mind (James 4:7). I pray that he will recognize the temptation, reject the temptation, and rejoice that he had the strength to refuse the temptation (1 Tim. 6:11, 2 Tim. 2:22, 1 Cor. 6:18). Just as You warned Cain that “sin is crouching at your door,” I pray that my son will recognize when sin is lying in wait for him, and master it-beginning with his thoughts (Genesis 4:7). I pray he will be able to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5).
As You promised that You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, secured and stayed on You, I pray he will experience that peace today as his mind is fixed on You (Is. 26:3). Finally, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, may he think about such things today (Phil. 4:8).
Lord, Jesus taught us to pray, “Lead us not into temptation” (Matt: 6:13). I pray that You will steer my son’s eyes away from temptation today. From the internet to magazines to things on other people’s devices, from billboards to girls he might meet at school, keep his eyes from the lingering on images that will be harmful to his thought life. Help him to take the way of escape by clicking delete, removing himself from the situation or focusing his eyes on a different image (Mark 9:47). Keep him from defiling himself with sexual impurity but instead presenting his body to God as a living and holy sacrifice. Let my son not copy the behavior and customs of this world (Rom. 12:1).
Open his eyes to see the greatness in creation and to see that Your mercies are new every morning (Lam. 3:23). Help him to see trials as learning opportunities (James 1:2-3). Help him to see Your fingerprints on each day of his life, to see Your provision and protection. May he be confident in this, that he will see the goodness of the LORD (Ps. 27:13). Open his eyes to see wonderful things in Your word (Ps. 119:18). May his eyes be open when You are doing a new thing in his life and opening up ways in the desert or streams in the wasteland (Is. 43:19).
Just as You asked the blind men, “What do you want me to do for you?” and they answered, “Lord we want our sight,” I pray the same for my son (Matt. 20:32). Help him to see You today. Your word says that those who look to You have faces that are radiant and never covered with shame (Ps. 34:5). May his eyes look to You today. May he look to You for strength (Ps. 105:4). As the eye is the lamp of the body, may his eyes be filled with good things today (Luke 11:23).
Just as I pray for You to lead my son away from temptation by what he sees with his eyes, I pray You will lead him away from temptation with what he hears with his ears. Keep my son vigilant today against the worldly influnences of today’s music and the talk of his peers. Lord, grant that my son might put a guard over his ears today and seek voices of affirmation, holiness and godly humor. Please place in my son a craving to fill his ears with worship and praise.
May he also hear Your still small voice today (1 Kings 19:12, NKJB) and listen as You instruct him (Deut. 4:36, Ps. 32:8). I pray he will listen to You and not turn away (Is. 50:5). I pray he will hear You telling him when to turn to the left or to the right, that he will listen to wise counsel from his friends, peers, teachers and coaches (Prov. 10:21). I pray he will walk away from coarse joking, filthy talk and off-color jokes. Remind my son today that those are not for him. He is called to something greater (Eph. 5:4).
Lord, I pray the words of my son’s mouth will be pleasing in Your sight today (Ps. 10:14). I pray no unwholesome word would come from his mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen (Eph. 4:29). I ask that he would honor me with his words and tone of voice. Set a guard over his mouth and keep watch over the door of his lips (Ps. 141:3). Put words in his mouth so that he may make Jesus known to those around him (Eph. 6:19).
Lord, I pray You will keep him from lewd jesting and inappropriate or profane language. Let these have no appeal to him (Eph. 5:4). I pray he will be a young man of honor and keep his word to his family, friends and teammates (Matt. 5:37). I pray he will do everything without complaining or arguing so that he may become blameless and pure (Phil. 2:14-15).
Help him not to be hasty in his speech (Prov. 29:20) but be slow to speak and quick to listen (James 1:9). Whatever he says today, may he be a good representative for You (Col. 3:17).
I ask this in the matchless name of Jesus Christ, because there is no other name under heaven by which these requests can be heard, nor any other name by which we can be saved.
Lord, in the Old Testament, those who refused to obey You were called stiff-necked, so today I pray my son will be submissive to You (Neh. 9:29). Your word promises that obedience to Your law results in a long and peaceful life, and I ask that on behalf of my son today (Prov. 3:1-2).
Jesus said, “If you love me, obey My commands” (John 14:15). I pray my son will demonstrate that love for You today by obeying Your commands. I pray he will be strong, courageous and careful to do everything written in Your word so that he will be prosperous and successful today (Joshua 1:8-9). Help him to see that Your precepts are good (Ps. 119:128-129).
I pray he will believe in the name of Jesus Christ and love others as You have commanded us to do (1 John 3:23). I pray he will humble himself before You today so that You will lift him up (James 4:10). May he have the mind of Christ, who although was God Himself, humbled himself by taking the form of a man and obeyed even to the point of death (Phil. 2:6-8).
Lord, many times Your strength is personified by Your outstretched arm (Exodus 15:16, Deut. 7:19, 11:2). Today I pray for my son’s arms and his strength- that he will clothe himself with Your strength (Is. 51:9). I pray my son will see that he has You to help him fight his battles (2 Chron. 32:8). May You be the strength of His life and his portion forever (Ps. 73:26).
Stand by his side and give him strength (2 Tim. 4:17). Help him to realize and call on the power of the Holy Spirit to give him the strength to do all that You have called him to do (Eph. 1:19). Thank You that You have promised to give him strength to do all that You have called him to do if he would but ask (phil. 4:13). I pray he will love You with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his mind and with all his strength all the days of his life (Mark 12:30). I pray my son will long to embrace his future wife with his arms (Song 2:6). That his arms will long to embrace her and only her (Prov. 5:20). Grant that he would be a husband of unwavering faithfulness and a reflection of Your mighty steadfast love towards his wife.
Lord, today I pray for the work of my son’s hands. I pray he will enjoy the good of all his labor and see it as a gift from God (Ecc. 3:13, 5:19). I pray he will neither be lazy (Prov. 10:15) nor a workaholic (Prov. 23:4-5) but have the right balance. May he have clean hands and a pure heart before You (1 Sam. 18:14).
I pray my son may find purpose in what he does with his hands today and all this week. Help him to be faithful in the little things at school so that he will be entrusted with much more (Luke 15:10). When he comes up against a difficult situation, I pray he will turn to You and remember that God’s grace is sufficient and he would know God’s power is made perfect or visible when we depend on Him (2 Cor. 12:9).
Whatever work his hands do this week, I pray he will work as working for the Lord and not for men since that is where his ultimate reward will come from (Col. 3:23-24). At the end of the day, I pray my son will not be ashamed to lift holy hands in praise or fold his hands in prayer.
Lord, I pray my son will love You with all of his heart (Deut. 6:5) and trust You with his whole heart (Prov. 3:5). Create in him a clean heart today (Ps. 51:10), and help him to draw near to You with a sincere heart full of assurance of faith (Heb. 1:22). May Your peace rule in his heart (Col. 3:15). Above all, I pray he will guard his heart, for it is the source of every thing he will think, feel, say and do today (Prov. 4:23).
Lord, I ask that my son would be filled with wisdom and discernment to know who his real enemies are and that he would not give his heart over to them. However, I ask that he would be able to love his enemies and pray for those who persecute him through Your mighty power (Matt. 4:44). I pray he will love his neighbors (Matt. 22:39) and his brothers in Christ (1 Pet. 1:22). I pray Your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that he may approve the things that are excellent in order to be sincere and blameless (Phil. 1:9-10, NASB). I pray he will be rooted and grounded in love, and that he will be able to comprehend the breadth and length and height and depth of Your love for him today (Eph. 3:17).
I also ask that the eyes of his heart may be enlightened in order that he may know the hope to which You have called him, the riches of God’s glorious inheritance in him and God’s incomparably great power for him who believes (Eph. 1:18-19).
Lord, I pray for those with whom my son walks side by side. I pray for his friendships. I pray that he will have godly friends who will sharpen him as iron sharpens iron (Prov. 7:17), who hold him accountable to live a godly life (Prov. 28:23), and who will step in and help him bear burdens when they grow too heavy for him to bear on his own (Gal. 6:2). I pray he will have friends who will stand with him for what is right and good, and pick him up when he falls (Ecc. 4:10).
Lord, bring a Paul into his life-an upright man of God who will pour into my son selflessly and with pure motives. Who will be the voice that confirms all he has heard from me.
Father, I also ask that you would give my son discernment and wisdom when it comes to girls. Make immodesty and lewdness repulsive to him. Bring no simple-minded, shifty, immoral girls or women into his life. Let him flee from sexual impurity and from girls with the spirit of Delilah in them. Let my son not be swayed by his sexual desires but be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Let my son remain sexually pure until marriage, and let that resolve come from his own heart: a covenant promise he makes with the God of his life.
Lord, keep me from worrying about my son. Remind me he is in Your hands. Let me not weaken my faith by carrying the burden of responsibility for his future: You have promised to carry that burden for me! Strengthen me to pour Your word into him, even if he rolls his eyes or suddenly becomes a yawn-monster (and keep me from wrath if that boy dares to look bored when I open Your word!). I am often so lazy when it comes to training his heart. Remind me that Your word never returns void and that you watch over it and will fulfill all of your promises to my son. Give me wisdom to teach my son in a way that his mind and heart can receive You, and let me not just sit him down and try to force-feed him Scripture. Make me creative with fresh ideas and purpose! Let me see him with eyes of grace, for where his sin abounds, Your grace abounds even more. Let us laugh together. Remind me of the incredibly powerful position You have given me in his life. I am his MOTHER. I carried him for 9 months and have tenderly cared for him every day since. Never let me forget (regardless of his behavior towards me) of the immeasurable influence I have for Christ in the life of my son. Humble me, Lord. So often I approach being his mother with a know-it-all attitude when the truth is I am often unsure if I am doing this right. Am I in Your will? Am I doing enough? Father, slay these doubts with Your promises. With Your grace. With Your love. MAKE MY SON LOVE YOU AND FOLLOW HARD AFTER YOU ALL THE DAYS OF HIS LIFE.
Lord, I pray my son will stand firm in the teachings of Christ today (2 Thes. 2:15). I pray he will be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power by putting on the full armor of God so that he will be able to stand against the devil’s schemes (Eph. 6:10-11). Oh Lord, grant him wisdom to see when the enemy is crouching at the door of his heart! Let him not be passive, like Adam, but let the faith of my son be like that of a roaring lion who devours sin before it even looks his way! Increase his faith, Lord, for by faith we are able to stand firm (2 Cor. 1:24). Your Word says that You give strength to the weary and increase power to the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and the young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint (Is. 40:29-31). This is my prayer for my son today.
Lord, I pray you will order my son’s steps today, so that his eyes will look straight ahead and fix his gaze directly on You (Prov. 4:25). Oh, Lord, TURN HIS HEART TO YOU TODAY!! I pray he will walk in the way You have commanded (Deut. 5:33). I pray Your love will ever be before him as he walks in Your truth (Ps. 26:3). Lift the heart of my son towards You today and let heaven fill his thoughts. Let him walk away from being like so many other dull-minded young men. Give him a depth of heart, mind and soul. Let him walk in the knowledge of Christ and the depths of Your love.
Blessed is the young man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly (Ps. 1:1) but fears the Lord and walks in His ways (Ps. 128:1). I pray that my son will walk with wise young men so that he may also be wise (Prov. 13:20). I pray he will run the race with endurance and not stumble along the way. I pray he will throw off any sin that entangles him and slows him down (Heb. 12:1). I pray Your word will be a lamp unto his feet today and a light to my son’s path (Ps. 119:105). Make his way clear today, and do not let him stumble into foolishness or wayward thinking.
I pray my son will walk in truth, in light, and in tandem with Christ today (1 Jn. 1:7). “For the Lord God is a sun and a shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless. O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in You (Ps. 84:11-12).
